COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT VOLUNTEER 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Advocate for the organization's mission and vision among community members.

  • Research and attend local events to increase awareness and promote GTH initiatives.

  • Plan and lead community events, workshops, and informational sessions.

  • Support and enhance the organization's social media presence.

  • Create and distribute promotional materials to engage with the community.

  • Identify community needs and advocate for resources or changes to address them.

  • Engage the community in fundraising activities to encourage participation.

  • Collaborate with the GTH team to ensure community engagement strategies align with organizational goals.

SKILLS: 

A Community Engagement Volunteer should possess a diverse set of skills to effectively carry out the responsibilities outlined. These skills collectively enable a Community Engagement Volunteer to effectively represent the organization, build strong community relationships, and support the GTH’s mission through various engagement strategies.

1. Communication Skills

  • Public Speaking: Ability to advocate for the organization's mission and present information confidently at community events and meetings.

  • Written Communication: Strong skills in creating promotional materials, social media content, and other written communications.

  • Active Listening: Ability to listen to community feedback and concerns to better address their needs.

2. Organizational Skills

  • Event Planning: Proficiency in planning, organizing, and executing community events, workshops, and informational sessions.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently, including coordinating events and handling administrative duties.

3. Interpersonal Skills

  • Networking: Skill in building and maintaining relationships with community members, local leaders, and stakeholders.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with the GTH team and other volunteers to align strategies and achieve common goals.

4. Marketing and Outreach

  • Social Media Management: Experience in supporting and enhancing the organization’s social media presence to engage with the community.

  • Promotional Design: Ability to create engaging promotional materials, such as flyers, brochures, and newsletters.

5. Research and Analysis

  • Event Research: Skill in researching and identifying relevant local events and opportunities for engagement.

  • Community Needs Assessment: Ability to analyze and identify community needs and advocate for necessary resources or changes.

6. Fundraising Skills

  • Fundraising Engagement: Experience in engaging community members in fundraising activities and encouraging their participation.

  • Campaign Support: Ability to support fundraising campaigns and initiatives through outreach and promotion.

7. Problem-Solving Skills

  • Adaptability: Ability to respond to challenges and changes in community needs or organizational priorities with effective solutions.

  • Creative Thinking: Skill in developing innovative ways to engage the community and promote the organization’s initiatives.

8. Administrative Skills

  • Record Keeping: Ability to maintain accurate records of community interactions, event attendance, and engagement metrics.

  • Reporting: Skill in preparing reports on community engagement activities and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be a university student or have a bachelor's degree in social studies, or community development studies. 

  • Relevant Coursework or experience in community outreach, social advocacy, public relations, and event management.

  • Proficient in both spoken and written English and Kinyarwanda.

  • Aged 22-26, and Being a YALI alumnus will be an additional asset.
