Niyonkuru Egide's story

My name is Niyonkuru Egide I am 10 years old and I am in P5 at Gitega primary school , my dream is to become an engineer as soon I finish my studies .But this dream tends to be unclear to my eyes whenever i think about the life that me and my two siblings are living in . My mum wakes up everyday to keep kigali clean sweeping roads so as to be able to afford at least one meal per day for me and my siblings . Unfortunately her salary can’t cover all of our basic needs, given the fact that our father had Abandoned us because of poverty.

I don’t know if I will go to school again, not because I don’t want to but because affording the scholarstic materials and school fees is very hard for my mother. We often pass two to three days without having a meal, most of time I have to go to school on an empty stomach which makes my learning and attention in class minimal.

For this moment I humbly request anyone who can add a brick to my future and once I reach to my dream , I will be a good engineer who will help other kids born in similar situation as mine .
